Member Biography:

The Honorable Steve Conway
State Representative (D)

Rep. Conway represents District 29, which includes South Tacoma, Parkland and portions of Lakewood and University Place. He is serving his seventh term in the House, where he is chair of the Commerce and Labor Committee; vice chair of the Select Committee on Pension Policy; vice chair of the Labor and Workforce Development Committee; and a member of the Appropriations and Finance committees.

A native of Ontario, OR, he holds a doctorate in education from the University of Oregon and was a Fulbright Fellow at the London School of Economics. He has been Secretary-Treasurer of the United Food & Commercial Worker’s Union, Local 81 since 1989. Prior to this he taught at Bates Vocational Technical Institute, Pacific Lutheran University and the University of Oregon.

He is a delegate to the Pierce County Labor Council (AFL-CIO); a trustee of the Pierce County Community Services Agency and the Washington State History Museum (Tacoma); a visiting committee member of the Harry Bridges Labor Studies Center; and an Advisory Board Member of the Harold E. LeMay Auto Museum.
