Member Biography:Lynn Gust Lynn Gust is senior vice president of store operations for Fred Meyer Stores, based in Portland, Oregon. Fred Meyer is a division of The Kroger Co., one of the largest grocery retailers in the United States. Fred Meyer features unique one-stop-shopping stores in four western states that combine food, apparel, and general merchandise items under one roof. Gust was born and raised in Vancouver, WA and joined Fred Meyer while still in high school. He started his career with Fred Meyer as a parcel clerk at the Fourth Plain store in 1970. In 1972, he entered the food management program and advanced steadily to become a food department manager in 1981. Gust was promoted to a training coordinator for the Food Division in 1988, became a grocery buyer in 1991, and in 1994 was promoted to director of grocery sales and merchandising. In 1997 he was named vice president and merchandiser of special projects for the Food Group and attended the Cornell Food Executive Program. Two years later he was promoted to group vice president of nonperishable products for the Food Group. In 2003, he was named senior vice president of Store Operations Group. Gust and his wife have four children. His interests include golf, hiking, camping, and sharing outdoor activities with his children.
