Wenatchee- The Wenatchee High School Student Leadership Development Conference will take place September 29, through October 1, 2000, at the Lake Wenatchee YMCA Camp, 15263 North Shore Drive in Leavenworth. This year the curriculum will enhance student’s personal development, their beliefs about success, self-esteem, self-confidence, aspirations and hope.
The ASTA Coalition (Assisting Students to Achieve) is partnering with the Wenatchee High School staff in order to work together to increase the academic performance of traditionally under served students. This year 40 migrant students from the Wenatchee School District were chosen to attend the three day conference based on their leadership potential.
The students will learn about goal setting, decision making, and problem solving. Local volunteers will tailor their instruction based on the specific educational challenges that face secondary migrant students today.
Assisting the ASTA Coalition in the three day development conference is the Secondary Education for Migrant Students program (SEMY), Washington State Liquor Control Board, local community leaders, school staff and volunteers. The Wenatchee School District is hosting the three-day conference.
