AGENTS ISSUE CITATIONS FOR UNTAXED CIGARETTES

Tacoma – The Liquor Control Board issued 11 citations to people purchasing untaxed cigarettes in the Pierce County area today. With assistance from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, 16 cartons of untaxed cigarettes were seized as evidence.

The 11 people were cited for a gross misdemeanor and face a mandatory court date in Pierce County District Court.

Washington state tax on a carton of cigarettes is $8.25. This is the fifth operation of a statewide effort by the Liquor Control Board to discourage citizens from purchasing untaxed cigarettes.
