Press Release

SAN JUAN COUNTY COMPLIANCE

May 18, 2000

Bellingham – The Washington State Liquor Control Board and the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office will participate in a joint effort to reduce minor access to alcohol in San Juan County. In the next two weeks, emphasis will be placed on both retail outlets who sell to minors and adults who provide alcohol to minors.

In Washington State, it is a gross misdemeanor to sell, give, or provide alcohol beverages to minors under 21 years of age. In a retail outlet, if a clerk sells to a minor they will receive a criminal citation and the liquor licensee will receive an administrative violation from the Liquor Control Board. Charges will also be filed against minors who attempt to purchase beverage alcohol.

For more information please contact the San Juan County Sheriff’s office at (360) 378-4151 or Tom Dixon with the Liquor Control Board at
(360) 676-2074.
