Snohomish- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents, along with the Snohomish Health District, conducted 9 tobacco compliance checks on Tuesday, March 12 in Snohomish. During compliance checks, a 15 or 16 year old, will enter either a grocery store or a convenience store to attempt to buy tobacco products. Of the 9 compliance checks, none of the businesses sold to the minor.
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Tuesday’s compliance checks:
- Jackpot Food Mart Monroe/ 19090 Hwy 2/ Monroe
- G O Red Barn/ 19721 Hwy 2/ Monroe
- La Michocana Boutique Y Abarrotes/ 118 W Main St/ Monroe
- West Monroe McChevron & Car Wash/13885 Fryelands Blvd/Monroe
- Safeway Store #1199 / 519 Hwy 9/ Lake Stevens
- J Variety / 122 State Ave/ Marysville
- First Stop Food Mart / 70 State Ave Ste B/ Marysville
- AM/PM Mini Mart #5566/ 1124 4th St/ Marysville
- Henrys Donuts /1289 State Ave/ Marysville
The clerks could have received a $50 fine if they had sold cigarettes to the minor and the licensees could of faced a penalty based on the following guidelines:
- The first time penalty for selling tobacco to a minor is a $100 dollar fine
- Second offense is a $300 dollar fine
- Third offense is a $1,000 dollar fine and a six-month license suspension
- Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine and a 12-month license suspension.
