Thurston and Lewis Counties- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 11 tobacco compliance checks on Wednesday, October 16, in Thurston and Lewis Counties. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 11 compliance checks, the following 5 businesses sold cigarettes to a minor:
- Speedway Grocery 19202 HWY 99, Rochester
- Short Stop Grand Mound 6212 197th Av SW, Rochester
- Rochester Mercantile 10145 HWY 12 SW, Rochester
- Harrison Ave. Shell Mart 609 Harrison Av, Centralia
- Inland Market 112 2nd St NE, Napavine
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Wednesday’s compliance checks:
- Grand Mound AM PM Mini Market 19705 HWY 99 SW, Rochester
- Larry’s Chevron 9525 SW HWY 12, Rochester
- Bailey’s IGA 10333 HWY 12, Rochester
- Freeway Mart 1232 Mellen St, Centralia
- Annie’s Napavine Country Market Napavine Shopping Center, Napavine
- Eagle Truck Stop 110 Estep Rd., Chehalis
Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines:
- First offense $100 dollar fine,
- Second offense $300 dollar fine,
- Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
- Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
