4 out of 22 Tobacco Licensees Sell Cigarettes to Minor

Franklin and Benton County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 22 compliance checks on Friday, October 18, in the Franklin and Benton County area. During compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 22 compliance checks, the following 4 businesses sold cigarettes to a minor:
  • Metro Mart 1015 W. Lewis St., Pasco
  • The Market 2019 W. Court St., Pasco
  • Metro Mart II 2601 W. Court St., Pasco
  • 7-Eleven 4313 W. Court St., Pasco 
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Friday’s compliance checks:
  • Sun Mart 1002 S. Washington St., Kennewick
  • Kennewick Red Apple 902 S. Washington St., Kennewick
  • Ron’s Food Mart 1821 S. Washington St., Kennewick
  • Tesoro 2 Go #62177 22 S. Gum St., Kennewick 
  • Smitty’s Conoco #200 529 E. Columbia Dr., Kennewick
  • Stop and Go Market # 2 221 S. 10th Ave., Pasco
  • 7- Eleven 1504 W. Sylvester St., Pasco
  • Smitty’s Conoco #220 1909 W. Court St., Pasco
  • Seven Star Mini-Market 1931 W. Court St., Pasco
  • Grand Central Coffee Station 2205 W. Court St., Pasco
  • Albertson’s # 228 1330 N. 20th Ave., Pasco
  • Albertson’s #228 Fuel Center 1420 N. 20th Ave., Pasco 
  • Mr. Qwik’s 2519 W. Court St., Pasco
  • Pasco Food Pavilion 2101 W. Court St., Pasco 
  • Sun Mart #4 3109 W. Court St., Pasco
  • Sun Mart #17 4805 Rd. 68, Pasco
  • Desert Food & Deli 10806 E. Kennedy Rd., Benton City
  • Sun Mart #15 3957 Van Giesen Rd., West Richland
Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines: 
  • First offense $100 dollar fine, 
  • Second offense $300 dollar fine,
  • Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
  • Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
