1 out of 15 Tobacco Licensees sell Cigarettes to Minors

Grays Harbor County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 15 compliance checks on Friday, October 18, in the Grays Harbor County area. During the compliance checks, a 15 or 16 year old will enter a grocery or convenience store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 15 compliance checks, only one business sold cigarettes to a minor:

The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Friday’s compliance checks:
  • Ted’s Red Apple 108 S. Montesano St Westport
  • Midtown Deli & Grocery 505 N. Montesano St. Westport
  • Pacific Aire R.V. Park 1209 N. Montesano St. Westport
  • Hungry Whale Mini Mart 1680 N. Montesano St. Westport
  • Sojourners Harbor Resort 871 Neddie rose Dr. Westport
  • Infinite Adventures 360 E. Dock St Westport
  • Alamer Texaco 700 Pt. Brown Ave NE Ocean shores
  • Ocean Shores IGA 101 E.Chance Alamer Ocean Shores
  • Ocean Shores Market 784 Pt. Brown Ave Ocean Shores

Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines: 
  • First offence $100 dollar fine, 
  • Second offense $300 dollar fine,
  • Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
  • Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
