0 out of 18 Tobacco Licensees sell Cigarettes to Minors

Thurston- Liquor Control Board Enforcement Agents conducted 18 tobacco compliance checks on Saturday, October 19, in Thurston County. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 18 compliance checks, none of the businesses checked sold cigarettes to a minor.

The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Saturday’s compliance checks:

  • Sodhi Chevron 1730 Olympic HWY S, Shelton
  • Brad’s Quickstop 1612 Olympic HWY S, Shelton
  • Colo’s Corner Grocery 1528 Olympic HWY S, Shelton
  • Shelton Red Apple 707 Cascade, Shelton
  • Jackpot Food Mart 108 N 1st, Shelton
  • Mickey’s Deli 110 W Alder, Shelton
  • Tobacco House 203 N 1st St, Shelton
  • Safeway Store #585 600 Franklin St, Shelton
  • Kwik Shop Food Mart 1931 Olympic HWY N, Shelton
  • Jackpot Food Mart 2210 Olympic HWY, Shelton
  • G&R 76 2235 Olympic HWY N, Shelton
  • Burgermaster Shell 3001 Olympic HWY N, Shelton
  • Fred Meyer Marketplace 301 E Wallace Kneeland Blvd, Shelton
  • Arnold’s Food Mart 301 E Wallace Kneeland Blvd, Shelton
  • Arco AM/PM Mini Market 106 E Wallace Kneeland Blvd, Shelton
  • Airport Grocery 11900 HWY 101, Shelton
  • Steamboat General Store 7120 Steamboat Island Road, Olympia
Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines: 
  • First offense $100 dollar fine, 
  • Second offense $300 dollar fine,
  • Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
  • Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
