3 out of 17 Liquor Licensees Sell Alcohol to Minor


October 28, 2002


Yakima County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 17 compliance checks on Saturday, October 26, in Yakima County. During the compliance checks, an 18 or 19 year old will enter a restaurant, tavern, or grocery store to attempt to buy alcohol. Of the 17 compliance checks, the following 3 businesses sold alcohol to a minor:
  • Yakima Ave. Market 802 E. Yakima Ave. Yakima 
  • Maid O’ Clover 51 Firing Center Rd. Yakima 
  • Clarks Empire Foods 3361 Mapleway Rd. Yakima 
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Saturday’s compliance checks:
  • Jackpot Food Mart 3312 Main St. Union Gap 
  • Maid O’ Clover 1802 E. Nob Hill Blvd. Yakima 
  • East Valley Market 7208 Postma Rd. Yakima

  • 8th Street Market / Deli 315 N. 8th St. Yakima

  • E-Z Markets 313 S. 1st St. Selah 
  • Many’s Chinook Center 10450 US Hwy 12. Naches 
  • Whistlin Jack Lodge 20800 Hwy 410. Naches 
  • Fred’s Food Center 16850 Summitview Rd. Cowiche 
  • Rodriguez Market 818 Wisconsin St. Tieton 

The clerks who sold alcohol to the minor received a criminal citation. The liquor licensees will receive either an administrative violation notice (AVN) or a written warning from the Liquor Control Board based on past offenses.

The first time AVN penalty for selling alcohol to a minor is a five-day suspension or a $500 fine, a second offense is a 7-day suspension with no monetary option, a third offense is a 30-day suspension with no monetary option, and a fourth offense is a license cancellation.
