Snohomish County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 11 tobacco compliance checks on Wednesday, October 23, in Snohomish County. During compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 11 compliance checks, none of the businesses sold cigarettes to a minor.
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Wednesday’s compliance checks:
- Haggen Food & Pharmacy Meridian Street Plaza, Everett
- Albertson’s Food Center 303 91st Ave N. E. #F, Everett
- Rite Aid 303 91st Ave N. E., Everett
- Cigarettes Store 712 91st Ave N. E. Ste. A, Everett
- Bartel Drug Co HCR 9 Box 621 N. E., Lake Stevens
- Safeway 519 Hwy 9, Lake Stevens
- Target 9601 Market Pl, Lake Stevens
- Jay’s Market 1809 124th Ave N. E., Lake Stevens
- Machias Grocery 1415 Machias Road, Snohomish
- Lake Connor Grocery 2730 Hartford/Machias Rd, Lake Stevens
- 7/Eleven 10012A Shoultes RD, Marysville
Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines:
- First offense $100 dollar fine,
- Second offense $300 dollar fine,
- Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
- Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
