Lewis County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 11 tobacco compliance checks on Wednesday, October 23, in Lewis County. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 11 compliance checks, the following 4 businesses sold cigarettes to a minor:
- Justice General Store 116 Main Street, Onalaska
- Handy Corner 1226 Harrison Ave, Centralia
- Safeway 1129 Harrison Ave, Centralia
- Borst Park BP 1006 Belmont, Centralia
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Wednesday’s compliance checks:
- Brenda’s Country Market 1753 HWY 508, Onalaska
- Allen’s Grocery 2058 HWY 508, Onalaska
- I-5 Foodmart 1120 Harrison Ave, Centralia
- Rite Aid 1200 Harrison Ave, Centralia
- Fuller Market 1227 Harrison Ave, Centralia
- PDQ Oil Company 1050 Harrison Ave, Centralia
- Gregg’s AM/PM Mini Mart 916 Harrison Ave, Centralia
Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines:
- First offense $100 dollar fine,
- Second offense $300 dollar fine,
- Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
- Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
