Pierce- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 12 tobacco compliance checks on Tuesday, October 29, in Pierce County. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 12 compliance checks, the following 2 businesses sold cigarettes to a minor:
- Am/Pm State Rd 410 & 208th Ave, Bonney Lake
- Sunshine Mart 29297 Hwy 410 E, Buckley
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Tuesday’s compliance checks:
- Brisco 9508 Orting Hwy Sr162, Alderton
- Now! Convenience 6601 166th Ave E, Sumner
- Chevron 18321 Hwy 410, Bonney Lake
- Smoke Town 20645 Hwy 410 E, Bonney Lake
- Bonney Lake Bp/76 20709 Hwy 410 E, Bonney Lake
- Qwik Stop 21406 Hiway 410, Bonney Lake
- Buckley Cigar 29211 Hwy 410 E, Buckley
- Buckley Pit Stop 29211 Hwy 410 E, Buckley
- Hi-Way Grocery 23315 Sr 410 E, Buckley
- Am/Pm 18116 Hwy 410, Bonney Lake
Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines:
- First offense $100 dollar fine,
- Second offense $300 dollar fine,
- Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
- Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
