Spokane- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 12 tobacco compliance checks on Wednesday, October 30, in Spokane. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 12 compliance checks, none of the businesses checked sold cigarettes to a minor:
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Wednesday’s compliance checks:
- Sunset Food Mart 2627 W. Sunset Blvd.
- City Service #5 404 S. Maple
- Zip Trip 1523 W. 10th
- Zip Trip 2820 E. 57th
- McQuick Lube Center 4501 S. Regal
- 7-Eleven 1317 S. Grand
- 7-Eleven 2828 E. 30th
- Zip Trip 303 S. Altamont
- Murphy Butte 305 S. Thor
- 7-Eleven 510 S. Thor
- Tesoro 2Go 3158 E. 17th
- 2Go Tesoro 104 W. 2nd
Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines:
- First offense $100 dollar fine,
- Second offense $300 dollar fine,
- Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
- Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
