8 out of 18 Liquor Licensees Sell Alcohol to Minor

Kittitas County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 18 compliance checks on Friday, November 1, in the Kittitas County area. During the compliance checks, an 18, 19 or 20 year old will enter a restaurant, tavern, or grocery store to attempt to buy alcohol. Of the 18 compliance checks, 8 businesses sold alcohol to a minor:
  • D & J Food Mart 201 W 1st St., Cle Elum 
  • WindBreak Deli 1716 Canyon Rd., Ellensburg 
  • Canyon Road Chevron 1710 Canyon Rd., Ellensburg 
  • Sun Mart # 16 1600 Canyon Rd., Ellensburg 
  • 7-Eleven 1001 E. 10th, Ellensburg 
  • Safeway Store #1630 400 N. Ruby, Ellensburg 
  • 18th Street Deli 1801 N. Walnut #1, Ellensburg 
  • Pilot Travel Center #389 1512 Hwy. 97, Ellensburg 

The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Friday’s compliance checks:
  • Simpson’s Texaco 207 W 1st St., Cle Elum 
  • Safeway Store #1135 804 W 1st St., Cle Elum 
  • Super 1 Foods #30 200 E. Mountain View Dr., Ellensburg 
  • Circle K #1136 204 Main St., Ellensburg 
  • Fred Meyer #00652 201 S. Water, Ellensburg
  • 7-Eleven 112 W. 8th St., Ellensburg
  • Happy’s Market 207 W. 8th St., Ellensburg
  • Mr. G’s Grocery 8th & Chestnut St., Ellensburg
  • Ken’s Auto Wash II 10th Ave. & Alder St., Ellensburg
  • Albertson’s #221 705 N. Ruby, Ellensburg

Clerks who sell alcohol to a minor receive a criminal citation. Liquor licensees receive either an administrative violation notice (AVN) or a written warning from the Liquor Control Board based on past offenses.

The first time AVN penalty for selling alcohol to a minor is a five-day suspension or a $500 fine, a second offense is a 7-day suspension with no monetary option, a third offense is a 30-day suspension with no monetary option, and a fourth offense is a license cancellation.
