Thurston County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 12 tobacco compliance checks on Wednesday, November 13, in Thurston County. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 12 compliance checks, the following 5 businesses sold cigarettes to a minor:
- Eddy’s Westside Diner 903 N Rogers St, Olympia
- Skookum Bay Outfitters 710 Marine Dr NE Ste 7, Olympia
- K & J Mini Market 724 E State St., Olympia
- Safeway Store #1952 4280 Martin Way E, Olympia
- Hawks Prairie BP & Truck Stop 8312 Quinalt Way NE, Lacey
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Wednesday’s compliance checks:
- Gull Harbor Mercantile 4932 Boston Harbor Rd NE
- Don’s EZ Mart 1408 N Bethel St, Olympia
- Puget Pantry 1100 Puget St NE
- Apex Food & Beverage 1841 E 4th Ave, Olympia
- South Bay Market 3425 Shinke Rd NE, Olympia
- South Bay Grocery & Deli 3444 S Bay Rd, Olympia
- Top Foods 5600 Martin Way, Lacey
Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines:
- First offense $100 dollar fine,
- Second offense $300 dollar fine,
- Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
- Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
