King County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents, along with the Redmond Police Department, conducted 16 tobacco compliance checks on Wednesday, November 13, in King County. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 16 compliance checks, the following 4 businesses sold cigarettes to a minor:
- Cigar Town 13317 NE 175th St, Woodinville
- Fine Wine & Cigars 16535 NE 76th, Redmond
- Rite Aid 17220 Redmond Way NE, Redmond
- 7-Eleven 5040 148th Ave NE, Redmond
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Wednesday’s compliance checks:
- Hollywood Hill Chevron 14505 148th Ave NE, Woodinville
- Bartell Drug Company 7370 170th Ave NE, Redmond
- Bartell Drug Company 8860 161st Ave NE, Redmond
- Chalet Grocery & Deli 17980 Redmond Way, Redmond
- Fred Meyer 17667 NE 76th St, Redmond
- Larry’s Market 7320 170th Ave NE, Redmond
- Park 520 Deli 6855 176th Ave NE, Redmond
- QFC 8867 161st Ave NE, Redmond
- QFC 15800 Redmond Way NE, Redmond
- Rite Aid 14880 NE 24th St, Redmond
- Safeway 17220 Redmond Way, Redmond
- Safeway 15000 NE 24th St, Redmond
Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines:
- First offense $100 dollar fine,
- Second offense $300 dollar fine,
- Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
- Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
