Press Release

2 out of 18 Tobacco Licensees sell Cigarettes to Minors 


November 19, 2002


Grant County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 18 tobacco compliance checks on Friday, November 15, in Grant County. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 18 compliance checks, the following 2 businesses sold cigarettes to a minor:
  • JR’s Chevron 1014 W. Broadway, Moses Lake 
  • Food Pavilion 911 N. Stratford, Moses Lake
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Friday’s compliance checks:
  • Short Stop II 864 Crescent Bar Rd. # 29, Quincy 
  • Santrap Bar & Grill 8878 Crescent Bar Rd. NW Suite # 3, Quincy 
  • The Tower 8997 Crescent Bar NW. Quincy 
  • Zack’s 704 “F” St. SW., Quincy
  • Loyal Order of Moose 105-109 “E” St. SE., Quincy 
  • Jake’ Meats 6726 Hwy 281 N., Quincy
  • Midway Mini Mart 16010 Rd. 1 NW., Quincy 
  • Quincy Golf Course 17056 Road 5 NW., Quincy 
  • Flying B # 6 3000 W. Broadway, Moses Lake 
  • Flying B # 7 2777 W. Broadway, Moses Lake 
  • Airway Deli Mart 5053 Airway Drive, Moses Lake 
  • B.P.O Elks 814 North Stratford Road, Moses Lake 
  • Ken’s Mini Mart 1606 W. Broadway Ave., Moses Lake 
  • North Stratford Mini Mart Hwy 17 & Stratford Rd. N.
  • Patton Park Fuel & Grocery 5219 Patton Blvd., Moses Lake 
  • Sun Mart # 24 640 N. Stratford Rd., Moses Lake 
Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines: 
  • First offense $100 dollar fine, 
  • Second offense $300 dollar fine,
  • Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
  • Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
