5 out of 25 Tobacco Licensees sell Cigarettes to Minors 


November 22, 2002


Renton- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 25 tobacco compliance checks on Friday, November 15, in Renton. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter a restaurant, tavern, or grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 25 compliance checks, the following 5 businesses sold cigarettes to a minor:
  • Cedar Rapids Grocery 18015 Maple Valley Hwy
  • Kennydale Chevron 1419 N 30th St.
  • Dino’s Pub 1800 NE 44th
  • Denny’s Restaurant 4750 Lake Washington Blvd.
  • Sunset Blvd. Shell 2800 NE Sunset Blvd.

The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Friday’s compliance checks:

  • Cigar Land — 17650 140th Ave. #C-1
  • Albertson’s — 14215 SE Petrovitsky Rd.
  • Am Pm — 17200 140th Ave. SE
  • Shell — 14210 SE Petrovitsky Rd.

  • 7-Eleven — 1308 N. 30th St.
  • Kennydale Shell — 1410 N. 30th St.
  • 405 Express Mart — 1800 NE 44th Ste. 100
  • Lucky 7 Food Mart — 3131 NE 12th St.
  • Circle K/76 — 3002 NE Sunset Blvd. #2
  • Vic’s Mart — 4033 NE Sunset Blvd. #2

Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines: 
  • First offense $100 dollar fine, 
  • Second offense $300 dollar fine,
  • Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
  • Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
