Pierce County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 11 tobacco compliance checks on Thursday, November 14, in Pierce County. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 11 compliance checks, none of the businesses checked sold cigarettes to a minor.
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Thursday’s compliance checks:
- Fred Meyer 7250 Pacific Ave., Tacoma
- Hoagy’s Corner 5602 Pacific Ave., Tacoma
- Smoke Now 5421 Pacific Ave., Tacoma
- Lively Market & Deli 4502 Pacific Ave., Tacoma
- 56th & Yakima Texaco 801 S 56th St., Tacoma
- 7 Ten Store 4635 Yakima Ave. S., Tacoma
- 7-Eleven 1002 38th St. S., Tacoma
- Peter’s Grocery 1307 S 38th St., Tacoma
- Shultz Distributing 3224 S Tacoma Way, Tacoma
- Rania Mini Market 2623 Bridgeport Way, W., Tacoma
- Bridgeport Deli Mart 10712 Bridge Port Way SW, Lakewood
Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines:
- First offense $100 dollar fine,
- Second offense $300 dollar fine,
- Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
- Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
