Lewis County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 10 tobacco compliance checks on Tuesday, November 19, in Lewis County. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 10 compliance checks, the following 3 businesses sold cigarettes to a minor:
- Mount St. Helen’s Grocery 1247 SR 506, Vader
- Dave’s Texaco 416 State Hwy 506, Toledo
- Cowlitz B.P. 101 Mulford Rd, Toledo
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Tuesday’s compliance
checks:
- Safeway Store 1129 Harrison, Centralia
- Cedar Village 209 E Walnut, Winlock
- Handi Store 503 Kerron, Winlock
- Winlock Texaco 223 State Rt 505, Winlock
- J & G’s Grocery 110 ½ State HWY 506, Vader
- Toledo Red Apple 400 Cowlitz, Toledo
- Short Stop Grocery 560 5th St N, Toledo
Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines:
- First offense $100 dollar fine,
- Second offense $300 dollar fine,
- Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
- Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
