4 out of 15 Liquor Licensees Sell Alcohol to Minor

 


November 27, 2002


Pierce County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 15 compliance checks on Saturday, November 23, in the Pierce County area. During the compliance checks, an 18, 19 or 20 year old will enter a restaurant, tavern, or grocery store to attempt to buy alcohol. Of the 15 compliance checks, 4 businesses sold alcohol to a minor:
  • Sales Corner 10406 Sales Rd, Lakewood
  • Steele St Texaco 10505 Steele St, Tacoma
  • Mj Mart 3004 112th St E, Tacoma
  • Canyon Rd Texaco 11304 Canyon Rd, Puyallup
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Saturday’s compliance checks:
  • Hiltop Market 1304 23rd St S, Tacoma
  • Steele St Chevron 11122 Steele St S, Lakewood
  • Ss Quick Stop 603 S 112th St, Tacoma
  • Am Pm 11109 Steele St, Tacoma
  • 76 Food Mart 11202 Steele St, Lakewood
  • Handy Corner 1118 112th St S, Lakewood
  • Bp 11202 Pacific Ave, Tacoma
  • Hasan Mini Mart 11908 Pacific Ave, Tacoma
  • R Food Mart 11401 Pacific Ave S, Tacoma
  • Albertson 11012 Canyon Rd E, Puyallup
  • Safeway 11501 Canyon Rd E, Puyallup

Clerks who sell alcohol to a minor receive a criminal citation. Liquor licensees receive either an administrative violation notice (AVN) or a written warning from the Liquor Control Board based on past offenses.

The first time AVN penalty for selling alcohol to a minor is a five-day suspension or a $500 fine, a second offense is a 7-day suspension with no monetary option, a third offense is a 30-day suspension with no monetary option, and a fourth offense is a license cancellation.
