4 out of 28 Tobacco Licensees sell Cigarettes to Minors 

 


November 27, 2002


King County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 28 tobacco compliance checks on Friday, November 22, in King County. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 28 compliance checks, the following 4 businesses sold cigarettes to a minor:
  • Espresso George; 31827 1/2 Military Road S., Auburn
  • Royal Bear; 35731 W Valley Hwy, Algona
  • Covington Chevron; 16703 Se 272nd, Covington
  • Four Corner's Bar & Grill; 26905 Maple Valley Hwy, Maple Valley
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Friday’s compliance checks:

  • Ddd Shell Food Mart & Video; 32002 Military Road S., Auburn

Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines: 
  • First offense $100 dollar fine, 
  • Second offense $300 dollar fine,
  • Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
  • Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
