1 out of 17 Tobacco Licensees sell Cigarettes to Minors 

 


November 27, 2002

Chelan County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 17 tobacco compliance checks on Monday, November 25, in Chelan County. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 17 compliance checks, the following business sold cigarettes to a minor:
  • E-Z Mart 210 Ferry Street, Wenatchee
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Monday’s compliance checks:
  • Martin’s Marketplace 130 Titchenal, Cashmere
  • Flying B #8 106 Titchenal, Cashmere
  • Hometown Mini Mart 300 Aplets Way, Cashmere
  • Cashmere Conoco 5607 Sunset Highway, Cashmere
  • Pioneer Market 702 Pioneer Ave, Cashmere
  • Quik-E-Mart 102 Titchenal, Cashmere
  • Malaga Market 3821 Malaga/Alcoa Hwy, Malaga
  • Western Market 1732 5th Street, Wenatchee
  • Ernie’s 525 S. Miller, Wenatchee
  • South Bound Express Lane 116 Chelan Ave, N., Wenatchee
  • Plaza Super Jet 106 Okanogan, Wenatchee
  • Maid O’clover Mission & Ferry, Wenatchee
  • 7-Eleven 2301-20804d S 925 Mission, Wenatchee
  • Squilchuck Market 1780 South Mission, Wenatchee
  • Ferry Street Market 850 Methow Street, Wenatchee

Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines: 
First offense $100 dollar fine, 
  • Second offense $300 dollar fine,
  • Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
  • Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
