2 out of 29 Tobacco Licensees sell Cigarettes to Minors 

 


November 27, 2002


Benton and Franklin County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 29 tobacco compliance checks on Monday, November 25, in Benton and Franklin County. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 29 compliance checks, the following 2 businesses checked sold cigarettes to a minor:
  • Sun Mart Store 4805 N. Rd 68., Pasco
  • Stop & Go Market 221 S. 10th Ave., Pasco


The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Monday’s compliance checks:

  • Courts End 1502 N. 4th Ave., Pasco
  • A & A Mini Mart 919 W. Court St., Pasco
  • Pasco Smoke Shop 1501 W. Court St #107, Pasco
  • Smitty’s Conoco 1909 W. Court St., Pasco
  • Seven Stars Mini-Mart 1931 W. Court St., Pasco
  • Albertson’s 1330 N. 20th., Pasco

Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines: 

  • First offense $100 dollar fine, 
  • Second offense $300 dollar fine,
  • Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
  • Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
