3 out of 21 Tobacco Licensees sell Cigarettes to Minors

Jefferson County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 21 tobacco compliance checks on Saturday, November 30, in Jefferson County. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 21 compliance checks, the following 3 businesses sold cigarettes to a minor:
  • Jackpot Food Center 1100 Nesses Corner, Port Hadlock
  • Safeway 442 Sims Way, Port Townsend
  • Don’s Pharmacy 1151 Water St, Port Townsend
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Saturday’s compliance checks:
  • Niblick’s 751 Highland Dr, Port Ludlow
  • Port Ludlow Golf Course 751 Highland Dr, Port Ludlow
  • Port Ludlow Village Store 40 Village Way, Port Ludlow
  • Port Ludlow Marina Store 1 Gull Dr, Port Ludlow
  • The Money Shop 101 Oak Bay Rd, Port Hadlock
  • Quality Food Center 1890 Irondale Rd, Port Hadlock
  • Hadlock Hose Rest, 141 Chimacum Rd, Port Hadlock
  • Templetons At Chimacum 9072 Beaver Valley Rd, Chimacum
  • Penny Saver Mart 2140 Sims Way, Port Townsend
  • Quality Food Center 515 Sheriand Ave, Port Townsend
  • Fast Shop 2611 Sims Way, Port Townsend
  • American Legion 209 Monroe St, Port Townsend
  • The Surf 106 Taylor St, Port Townsend
  • Port Townsend Fear & Loathing 922 Water St, Port Townsend
  • Seabreeze Grocery 1408 Sims Way, Port Townsend
  • Highway Twenty Roadhouse 2152 Sims Way, Port Townsend
  • Jackpot Food Mart 2342 Sims Way, Port Townsend
  • Beaver Valley General Store 2593 Beaver Valley Rd, Port Ludlow
Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines: 
  • First offense $100 dollar fine, 
  • Second offense $300 dollar fine,
  • Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
  • Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
