1 out of 26 Tobacco Licensees sell Cigarettes to Minors 

 


December 11, 2002


King County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 26 tobacco compliance checks on Friday, December 6, in King County. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 26 compliance checks, only one business sold cigarettes to a minor:
  • Brookside Grocery; 32201 Kent Black Diamond Rd, Auburn
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Thursday’s compliance checks:
  • AM/PM Sahota Mart; 312 Roosevelt, Enumclaw
  • Circle K; 2415 Griffin Ave., Enumclaw
  • Country Corner; 43529 228th Ave SE, Enumclaw
  • Ernie’s Fuel Stop; 320 Griffin Ave., Enumclaw
  • Erwin’s Texaco; 1551 McHugh, Enumclaw
  • Lee Restaurant; 1110 Griffin Ave., Enumclaw
  • QFC; 1009 Monroe St., Enumclaw

Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines: 
  • First offense $100 dollar fine, 
  • Second offense $300 dollar fine,
  • Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
  • Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
