Seattle- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 10 tobacco compliance checks on Tuesday, December 3, in Seattle. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 10 compliance checks, 3 businesses sold cigarettes to a minor:
- Alexis Hotel 1007 First Avenue
- Sonya”s Bar & Grill 1919 First Avenue
- Pike Smoke Shop 1411 Second Avenue
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Tuesday’s compliance checks:
- Madison Renaissance Hotel 515 Madison Street, Seattle
- College Club of Seattle 505 Madison Street
- Young’s Market 1210 First Avenue
- Smoke Plus 1432 First Avenue
- The Show Box 1426 First Avenue
- Auntie Stellar”s Market 1523 Second Avenue
- Noc Noc 1516 Second Avenue
Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines:
- First offense $100 dollar fine,
- Second offense $300 dollar fine,
- Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
