Thurston County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 11 tobacco compliance checks on Wednesday, December 4, in Thurston County. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 11 compliance checks, the following 2 businesses checked sold cigarettes to a minor:
- JJ’s Quick Stop 4845 Blacklake Belmore RD SW, Olympia
- Cigarettes Cheaper! 3430 Pacific Ave SE Ste A-4, Olympia
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Wednesday’s compliance checks:
- Frog Pond Grocery 2102 S Capitol WY, Olympia
- Albertson’s 3520 Pacific Ave SE, Olympia
- South Sound Chevron 3731 Pacific Ave, Olympia
- Lylan Sandwich & Deli 4509 Lacey Blvd SE, Lacey
- Lacey Chevron 4603 Lacey Blvd, Lacey
- Anderson’s Lacey Texaco 4533 Lacey Blvd, Lacey
- 7-Eleven 6125 Pacific Ave, Lacey
- Safeway Store 6200 Pacific Ave SE, Lacey
- Albertoson’s 6100 Pacific Ave SE, Lacey
Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines:
- First offense $100 dollar fine,
- Second offense $300 dollar fine,
- Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
- Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
