Thurston County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 19 tobacco compliance checks on Wednesday, November 27, in Thurston County. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 19 compliance checks, the following 5 businesses sold cigarettes to a minor:
- Bailey Motor Inn 3333 Martin Way, Olympia
- Washington Wine Warehouse 4160 6th Ave SE Ste 103, Lacey
- Fred Meyer 700 Sleater-Kinney Rd, Lacey
- Texaco Star Mart 3505 Pacific Ave, Lacey
- Safeway 1243 Marvin Rd NE, Lacey
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Wednesday’s compliance checks:

- Fourth Ave Food Mart 927 E 4th St, Olympia
- Lucky 7 Grocery Store 1026 E 4th Ave, Olympia

- Boulvard Shell 2303 Pacific Ave, Olympia
- Shell Oil Products 2319 Pacific Ave, Olympia
- 7-Eleven 3541 Martin Way, Olympia

Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines:
- First offense $100 dollar fine,
- Second offense $300 dollar fine,
- Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
- Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
