Lewis County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 16 tobacco compliance checks on Thursday, December 12, in Lewis County. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 16 compliance checks, the following 3 businesses sold cigarettes to a minor:
- Jackpot Foodmart 614 W Main, Chehalis
- Freeway Mart 1232 Mellen St, Centralia
- Centralia Food Mart 102 Harrison Av, Centralia
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Thursday’s compliance checks:
- Get N Go Mart 615 N National St, Chehalis
- Fuller Market Basket No. 1 771 S Market Blvd, Chehalis
- Safeway 1100 S Market Blvd, Chehalis
- Market Street Market 1249 S Market Blvd, Chehalis
- Market Place Food Mart 1986 Market Blvd, Chehalis
- Interstate Chevron Food Mart 119 Interstate Ave, Chehalis
- Chokar’s AM/PM 104 Interstate Ave, Chehalis
- State Street Texaco 1349 NW State St, Chehalis
- Wal-Mart 1601 NW Louisiana Av, Chehalis
- Big K Mart 1201 NW Louisiana, Chehalis
- Fuller Market Place 1227 Harrison Av, Centralia
- Fuller Market Basket 505 S Tower Av, Centralia
- Apex II 402 W Main St, Centralia
Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines:
- First offense $100 dollar fine,
- Second offense $300 dollar fine,
- Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
- Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
