Vancouver- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 44 liquor and tobacco compliance checks on Tuesday, December 10, in Vancouver. During the compliance checks a 15 to 19 year old will enter a restaurant, tavern, or grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 44 compliance checks, none of the businesses checked sold alcohol or cigarettes to a minor.

Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines:
- First offense $100 dollar fine,
- Second offense $300 dollar fine,
- Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
- Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
Clerks who sell alcohol to a minor receive a criminal citation. Liquor licensees receive either an administrative violation notice (AVN) or a written warning from the Liquor Control Board based on past offenses.
The first time AVN penalty for selling alcohol to a minor is a five-day suspension or a $500 fine, a second offense is a 7-day suspension with no monetary option, a third offense is a 30-day suspension with no monetary option, and a fourth offense is a license cancellation.
