2 out of 18 Tobacco Licensees sell Cigarettes to Minors 


December 17, 2002


King County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 18 tobacco compliance checks on Saturday, December 14, in King County. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 18 compliance checks, the following 2 businesses sold cigarettes to a minor:
  • Morning Star Mini; 8855 9th Ave SW, Seattle
  • R.S.C Marketers; 4580 Fauntleroy Wy SW, Seattle
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Saturday’s compliance checks:
  • Harbor Mercantile; 103rd & Sw 240, Burton
  • Mom’s Grocery; 19124 Vashon Hwy SW, Vashon
  • Fraternal Order Of Eagles; 18134 Vashon Hwy SW, Vashon
  • Island Mart; 17817 99th Ave. SW, Vashon
  • Vashon Mart; 17639 100th SW, Vashon
  • Bishop’s Café; 17618 Vashon Hwy SW, Vashon
  • Chorak’s Sportsman; 17615 99th SW, Vashon
  • Vashon Thtiftway; 9740 Sw Bank Rd., Vashon
  • Vashon Smoke Shop; 17311 SW Vashon Hwy,Vashon
  • Westwood Gas & Deli ; 920035th SW, Seattle
  • Circle K; 9061 Delridge Way SW, Seattle

  • C & F Food Store; 6540 California Ave. SW, Seattle

  • Tervo’s Mini Mart; 4415 Fauntleroy Way SW, Seattle
Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines: 
  • First offense $100 dollar fine, 
  • Second offense $300 dollar fine,
  • Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
  • Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
