Seattle- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 13 tobacco compliance checks on Sunday, December 15, in Seattle. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 13 compliance checks, the following 2 businesses sold cigarettes to a minor:
- Only In Seattle 126 Pike St
- Quality Food Mart 1619 Third Avenue
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Sunday’s compliance checks:
- Nitelite 1926 2nd Avenue Seattle
- Olympic Broiler 200 Pike St
- Turf Rest. & Lounge 107 Pike St
- Ok Grocery 114 Pike St
- Bartels 1404 Third Av E
- Pike Brewing Co. 1419-21 First Avenue
- Stewart Smoke Shop 1902 Second Avenue
- Westin Hotel 1900 Fifth Avenue
- Arcade Smoke Shop 1522 Fifth Ave Suite 101
- Bartel Drugs 1628 Fifth Avenue
- Mayflower Pk Hotel 405 Olive Way
Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines:
- First offense $100 dollar fine,
- Second offense $300 dollar fine,
- Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
- Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
