Shelton- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 9 tobacco compliance checks on Monday, December 16, in Shelton. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 9 compliance checks, the following 4 businesses sold cigarettes to a minor:
- Brad’s Quick Stop 1612 Olympic Hwy S, Shelton
- Mickey’s Deli 110 W Alder, Shelton
- Kwik Shop Food Mart 1931 Olympic Hwy N, Shelton
- Burgermaster Shell Food Mart 3001 Olympic Hwy N, Shelton
The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Monday’s compliance checks:
- Sodhi Chevron 1730 Olympic Hwy S, Shelton
- Colo’s Corner Grocery & Deli 1528 Olympic Hwy S, Shelton
- Shelton Red Apple Market 707 Cascade, Shelton
- Safeway Store #585 600 Franklin St, Shelton
- Fred Meyer Marketplace 301 E Wallace-Kneeland Blvd, Shelton
Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines:
- First offense $100 dollar fine,
- Second offense $300 dollar fine,
- Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
- Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
