Spokane and Whitman County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 11 tobacco compliance checks on Saturday, December 21, in Spokane and Whitman County. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 15 compliance checks, one business sold cigarettes to a minor:

The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Saturday’s compliance checks:
- Spangle Foods 315 W. Jennings Rd., Spangle
- Friendly Mart 32 N. Inland St., Steptoe
- Jackpot Foodmart 804 N. Main, Colfax
- Jin’s Mart 500 Grand Ave. S., Pullman
- Candico 1960 NE Terre View, Pullman
- Checkpoint 1455 SE Bishop Blvd., Pullman
- 2Go Tesoro 770 Grand Ave. N., Pullman
- Rennie Keasal’s Service 485 Main, Pullman
- Thurman’s Palouse Market 215 E. Main, Palouse
- Zip Trip #20 4017 S. Cheney-Spokane Rd., Spokane
Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines:
- First offense $100 dollar fine
- Second offense $300 dollar fine
- Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension
- Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension
