Tacoma- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 15 tobacco compliance checks on Friday, December 20, in Tacoma. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 15 compliance checks, one business sold cigarettes to a minor:

The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Friday’s compliance checks:

- Shaffer's Automotive 5043 N Pearl St.

- Safeway 2637 N Pearl St.
- Rensun 5744 N 26th St.
- Bp 2602 N Pearl St.
- Albertson 2401 Pearl St. N.
- Rite Aid 1912 N Pearl St.
- Am/Pm 1101 N Pearl St.
- 6th Ave Market 7008 6th Ave.
- Ez Shop 1765 S Jackson St.
Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines:
- First offense $100 dollar fine
- Second offense $300 dollar fine
- Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension
- Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension
