8 out of 20 Liquor Licensees sell Alcohol to a Minor

King and Snohomish Counties - Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 20 compliance checks on Tuesday, January 13, in King and Snohomish Counties.  During the compliance checks, an 18, 19 or 20 year old will enter a restaurant, tavern, or grocery store to attempt to buy alcohol.  Of the 20 businesses checked the following 8 businesses sold alcohol to a minor:

  • Albertson’s 301 Marysville Mall, Marysville
  • Jackpot Food Mart 1034 State Avenue, Marysville
  • 7-Eleven 1114 State Avenue, Marysville
  • Aurora Oriental Market 15202 Aurora Avenue North, Shoreline
  • Fred Meyers 18325 Aurora Avenue North, Shoreline
  • 7-Eleven 16506 5th NE, Shoreline
  • Askar Mini Mart 1901 NE 205th, Shoreline
  • 7-Eleven 20801 Highway 527, Bothell

The Board commends the following business for passing Tuesday’s compliance checks:

  • Rite Aid 251 Marysville Mall, Marysville
  • Marysville Deli & Video 922 State Avenue, Marysville
  • Marysville Tobacco Bar 1102 State Avenue, Marysville
  • Captain Dizzy Exxon 1203 State Avenue, Marysville
  • Safeway 1258 State Avenue, Marysville
  • Jim’s Shell & Grocery 1209 4th Street, Marysville
  • Safeway 15332 Aurora Avenue North, Shoreline
  • Chevron 15510 Aurora Avenue North, Shoreline
  • 7-Eleven 928 North 160th, Shoreline
  • E-Z Corner Grocery 24325 56th Ave W, Mountlake Terrace

                                                                                          Clerks who sell alcohol to a minor receive a criminal citation.  Liquor licensees receive either an administrative violation notice (AVN) or a written warning from the Liquor Control Board based on past offenses.

The first time AVN penalty for selling alcohol to a minor is a five-day suspension or a $500 fine, a second offense is a 7-day suspension with no monetary option, a third offense is a 30-day suspension with no monetary option, and a fourth offense is a license cancellation.
