0 out of  8 Tobacco Licensees sell Cigarettes to Minors

Pierce County - Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 8 tobacco compliance checks on Wednesday, January 14, in Pierce County. During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes. Of the 8 compliance checks none of the businesses sold cigarettes to a minor.

The Liquor Control Board commends the following businesses for passing Wednesday’s compliance checks:


  • Flying J Travel Plaza 1501 33rd Ave E, Fife
  • Now! 81 3251 Pacific Hwy E, Fife
  • Los Gordos Mexican Store & Gift 2024 54the Ave E, Fife
  • Handy Corner Food Store 8009 E 112the St, Puyallup
  • Chevron 3923 Bridgeport Way, Tacoma
  • Rocky’s Mini Mart 7320 40th St, University Place
  • Rite Aid 3840 Bridgeport Way, University Place
  • Fox Island Grocery 587 6th Ave, Fox Island

Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines:

  • First offense $100 dollar fine,
  • Second offense $300 dollar fine,
  • Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,
  • Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.
