Tacoma - Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 14
tobacco compliance checks on Tuesday, January 13, in Tacoma. During
the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old will enter either a
restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy cigarettes.
Of the 14 compliance checks the following 2 businesses sold cigarettes
to a minor:

- Cigar Box 5013 S

Gordos Mexican Store & Gift 2024 54the Ave E, Fife
The Liquor Control Board
commends the following businesses for passing Tuesday’s compliance
checks:
- Peter’s Grocery 1307 S 38th St
- Tacoma Dome Food Mart 3402 Pacific Ave
- Happy Days Market 4601 Pacific Ave
- La Mejicana Grocery 4702 Pacific Ave
- Smoke Now 5413 ½ Pacific Ave S
- Smoke & More 808 72nd St E
- Smoke & Beer Plus 7044 Pacific Ave Ste B
- Fred Meyer Fuel 7250 Pacific Ave
- First Market 2015 S 96th St Ste 7

Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time
offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following
guidelines:
- First offense $100 dollar fine,
- Second offense $300 dollar fine,
- Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license
suspension and,
- Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license
suspension.
