Benton County - Liquor Control Board enforcement
agents conducted 8 compliance checks on Thursday, January 29, in
Benton County. During the compliance checks, an 18, 19 or 20 year old
will enter a restaurant, tavern, or grocery store to attempt to buy
alcohol. Of the 8 businesses checked the following 5 businesses sold
alcohol to a minor:
- Ki-BE Market; 1215 Horne Rd., Benton City
- Just a Minute; Mart 712 9th St., Benton City
- Pick a Pop; #2 505 9th St., Benton City
- Desert Food and Deli; 10806 E. Kennedy Rd., Benton City
- Sun Mart; #15 3957 Van Giesen, West Richland
The Board commends the following business for passing Thursday’s
compliance checks:
- Pit Stop Mini Mart 6197 Van Giesen, West Richland
- Lees Market 5730 Van Giesen, West Richland
- Tri Mart 5401 Van Giesen, West Richland
Clerks who sell alcohol to a minor receive a criminal citation. Liquor
licensees receive either an administrative violation notice (AVN) or a
written warning from the Liquor Control Board based on past offenses.
The first time AVN penalty for selling alcohol to a minor is a five-day
suspension or a $500 fine, a second offense is a 7-day suspension with
no monetary option, a third offense is a 30-day suspension with no
monetary option, and a fourth offense is a license cancellation.
