5 out of 12 Liquor Licensees Sell Alcohol to a Minor

Mason County-
Liquor Control Board enforcement agents, along with the Mason County Sheriff’s office, conducted 12 compliance checks on Friday, June 25 in Mason County.  During the compliance checks, an 18, 19 or 20 year old will enter a restaurant, tavern, or grocery store to attempt to buy alcohol.  Of the 12 businesses checked the following 5 businesses sold alcohol to a minor:
  • Fair Harbor Marine and Resort 5050 E Grapeview Loop Rd, Grapeview
  • Jarrell’s Cove Marina 200 Wilson Rd E, Shelton
  • Lakeland Village Golf Shop Old Ranch Rd, Allyn
  • The Woodshed Hwy 3, Belfair
  • Wild Bills Food-Drink-Groceries 30 Mission Crk Rd, Belfair

The Board commends the following business for passing Friday’s compliance checks:

  • Bobaloo’s Bar & Grill 24090 Ne Hwy 3, Belfair
  • Giotto’s At Allyn 18341 E State RT 3, Allyn
  • Hood Canal Market & Deli 3150 Northshore Rd., Belfair
  • Lakeside Bistro E 470 Country Club Dr., Allyn
  • Sunset Beach Grocery and Deli 17151 E Why 106, Belfair
  • Teriyaki Wok 23969 NE State RT 3 Ste A, Belfair
  • Delah Inn 130 NE Dulalip Landing, Belfair
     

Clerks who sell alcohol to a minor receive a criminal citation. Liquor licensees receive either an administrative violation notice (AVN) or a written warning from the Liquor Control Board based on past offenses.

The first time AVN penalty for selling alcohol to a minor is a five-day suspension or a $500 fine, a second offense is a 7-day suspension with no monetary option, a third offense is a 30-day suspension with no monetary option, and a fourth offense is a license cancellation.
