4 out of 15 Liquor Licensees Sell Alcohol to a Minor

Kitsap County - Liquor Control Board enforcement officers, along with the Poulsbo Police Department, conducted 15 compliance checks on Friday, July 23 in Kitsap County.  During the compliance checks, an 18, 19 or 20 year old will enter a restaurant, tavern, or grocery store to attempt to buy alcohol.  Of the 15 businesses checked the following 4 businesses sold alcohol to a minor: 

  • D & J Market & Deli, 1010 NE Forest Rock Lane Poulsbo

  • M&M Market and Deli, 406 High School Road Bainbridge Island
  • Safeway Store, #1252 253 High School Road NE Bainbridge Island
  • Suquamish Village Texaco, 18480 Suquamish Way NE Suquamish
The Board commends the following business for passing July 23 compliance checks:
  • Albertson’s Fuel Center, 8184 NE State Hwy #104 Kingston
  • Albertson’s Food Center, 8196 SR 104 Kingston
  • ARCO AM/PM, 10951 St. Hwy 104 Kingston
  • Chevron Food Mart, 18764 Hwy 305 NE Poulsbo
  • Evergreen Mart & Deli, 15915 Hwy 305 NE Poulsbo
  • Gliding Eagle Grocery, 7900 Little Boston Road Kingston
  • JC’s Grocery, 18475 Augusta Ave. Suquamish
  • Kingston Thriftway, Kingston Shopping Center, Kingston
  • Kountry Korners, 27099 Miller Bay Road NE Kingston
  • Port Madison Enterprises –MASI shop, Hwy 305 & Sandy Hook Road Suquamish
  • Rite Aid, 301High School Road Bainbridge Island

 Clerks who sell alcohol to a minor receive a criminal citation.  Liquor licensees receive either an administrative violation notice (AVN) or a written warning from the Liquor Control Board based on past offenses. 

The first time AVN penalty for selling alcohol to a minor is a five-day suspension or a $500 fine, a second offense is a 7-day suspension with no monetary option, a third offense is a 30-day suspension with no monetary option, and a fourth offense is a license cancellation.
