3 out of 12 Liquor Licensees Sell Alcohol to a Minor

Renton - Liquor Control Board enforcement officers conducted 12 compliance checks on Monday, Aug. 2 in Renton.  During the compliance checks, an 18, 19 or 20 year old will enter a restaurant, tavern, or grocery store to attempt to buy alcohol.  Of the 12 businesses checked the following 3 businesses sold alcohol to a minor: 

• Albertson’s, 14215 SE Petrovitsky

• Circle Food Store, 2000 Benson Road SE Ste 140
• Safeway, 17230 140th Ave. SE

 The Board commends the following business for passing Monday’s compliance checks: 

• 7-Eleven, 11505 SE 168th St.
• 7-Eleven, 13933 SE Petrovitsky
• Beverage Mart, 17310 140th SE
• Emanuel Shell Food Mart, 17941 108th Ave. SE
• Fred Meyer, 17801 108th Ave. SE
• QFC, 16950 116th Ave. SE
• QFC, 14060 SE Petrovitsky
• Shari’s, Benson Plaza Shopping Center
• Sunny’s Deli Mart, 10545 SE Carr Road
   

Clerks who sell alcohol to a minor receive a criminal citation.  Liquor licensees receive either an administrative violation notice (AVN) or a written warning from the Liquor Control Board based on past offenses. 

The first time AVN penalty for selling alcohol to a minor is a five-day suspension or a $500 fine, a second offense is a 7-day suspension with no monetary option, a third offense is a 30-day suspension with no monetary option, and a fourth offense is a license cancellation.
