Press Release

4 out of 19 Liquor Licensees Sell Alcohol to a Minor

Snohomish County - Liquor Control Board enforcement officers, along with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s office and the Marysville and Everett Police Departments, conducted 19 compliance checks on Wednesday, July 28 in Snohomish County.  During the compliance checks, an 18, 19 or 20 year old will enter a restaurant, tavern, or grocery store to attempt to buy alcohol.  Of the 19 businesses checked the following 4 businesses sold alcohol to a minor: 

  • AM/PM Mini Mart, 1124 4th St. Marysville

  • Boulevard Grocery,  5304 61st St. NE Marysville
  • Fred Meyer,  9925 State Ave. Marysville
  • Marysville Chevron, 1206 4th St. Marysville

The Board commends the following business for passing July 28               compliance checks: 

  • 4th Avenue Deli & Gas, 333 SW Everett Mall Way Everett

  • ARCO AM/PM, 220 SE Everett Mall Way Everett
  • Best Mini Mart, 607 SE Everett Mall Way Everett
  • Plaid Pantry, 620 Everett Mall Way SE Everett
  • Storm Lake Grocery, 5124 Storm Lake Road Snohomish
  • 116th Street Grocery, 3628 116th NE Marysville
  • 7-Eleven, 1114 State Ave. Marysville
  • Albertson’s, 301 Marysville Mall Marysville
  • Haggen Food & Pharmacy,  8915 Market Place Everett
  • Hunter’s Corner, 8225 84th St. NE Marysville
  • Lake Stevens Chevron, 621 Hwy 9 B4 Lake Stevens
  • Norm’s Market, 10027 Lundeen Parkway Lake Stevens
  • Safeway, 717 SR 9 NE Lake Stevens

Clerks who sell alcohol to a minor receive a criminal citation.  Liquor licensees receive either an administrative violation notice (AVN) or a written warning from the Liquor Control Board based on past offenses. 

The first time AVN penalty for selling alcohol to a minor is a five-day suspension or a $500 fine, a second offense is a 7-day suspension with no monetary option, a third offense is a 30-day suspension with no monetary option, and a fourth offense is a license cancellation.
