2 out of 10 Liquor Licensees Sell Alcohol to a Minor

YAKIMA - Liquor Control Board enforcement officers conducted 10 compliance checks on Tuesday, Aug.10 in Yakima. During the compliance checks, an 18, 19 or 20 year old will enter a restaurant, tavern, or grocery store to attempt to buy alcohol. Of the 10 businesses checked the following two businesses sold alcohol to a minor:

Top Food & Drug, 2203 S. First St.
Yakima Cooperative Association, 2202 S. First St.

The Board commends the following business for passing the Aug. 10 compliance checks:

3^rd Street Market, 616 S. Third St.
Boomer’s Roadside Bar and Grill, 1719 S. First St.
Gas & Food, 1820 Third Ave. S.
Nick’s Mini Mart, 502 S. Second St.
Road Runner Deli Mart, 1419 Third Ave. S.
Safeway, 905 E. Mead Ave.
Smitty’s Mini Mart, 304 Mead Ave. W.
Yakima Grocery Outlet, 2109 S. First St.

Clerks who sell alcohol to a minor receive a criminal citation. Liquor licensees receive either an administrative violation notice (AVN) or a written warning from the Liquor Control Board based on past offenses.

The first time AVN penalty for selling alcohol to a minor is a five-day suspension or a $500 fine, a second offense is a 7-day suspension with no monetary option, a third offense is a 30-day suspension with no monetary option, and a fourth offense is a license cancellation.
