4 out of 20 Liquor Licensees Sell Alcohol to a Minor

Snohomish County -
Liquor Control Board enforcement officers, along with the Monroe Police Department, conducted 19 compliance checks in Monroe and one in Snohomish on Thursday, Aug. 12.  During the compliance checks, an 18, 19 or 20 year old will enter a restaurant, tavern, or grocery store to attempt to buy alcohol.  Of the 20 businesses checked the following four businesses sold alcohol to a minor:
  • State Liquor Store, 304 E. Main St., Monroe
  • Safeway, 19651 State Route No. 2, Monroe
  • Twin River Mart, 17025 W. Main St., Monroe
  • West Monroe MC Chevron & Car Wash, 13885 Fryelands Blvd., Monroe

The Board commends the following business for passing the Aug. 12 compliance checks:
 

  • 7 Eleven Store, 200 E. Main St., Monroe

  • Albertson’s, 19881 State Route No. 2, Monroe
  • Alfy’s Pizza Inn, 19121 State Route No. 2, Monroe
  • ARCO AM/PM Mini Mart, 13739 Roosevelt Rd. S.E., Monroe
  • Circle K/76, 14980 Kelsey St. S.E., Monroe
  • Eaton Chevron, 514 Main St. E., Monroe
  • Fred Meyer, 18805 State Highway 2, Monroe
  • Fryeland 76, 16361 W. Main St., Monroe
  • Jackpot Food Mart, 19090 State Route No. 2, Monroe
  • La Michocana Boutique Y Abarrotes, 118 W. Main St., Monroe
  • Monroe Grocery Outlet, 405 Butler Ave. Monroe
  • Park Place Grocery and Gas, 17830 162nd St. S.E., Monroe
  • Red Barn Shell, 19721 State Route No.  2, Monroe
  • Rite Aid, 18906 State Route No.  2, Monroe
  • Roosevelt Store, 16412 Trombley Rd., Snohomish
  • Sami’s Shell, 19101 State Route No. 2, Monroe

Clerks who sell alcohol to a minor receive a criminal citation.  Liquor licensees receive either an administrative violation notice (AVN) or a written warning from the Liquor Control Board based on past offenses.

The first time AVN penalty for selling alcohol to a minor is a five-day suspension or a $500 fine, a second offense is a 7-day suspension with no monetary option, a third offense is a 30-day suspension with no monetary option, and a fourth offense is a license cancellation.
