Press Release

1 out of 14 Liquor Licensees Sell Alcohol to a Minor

Northeastern Washington -
Liquor Control Board enforcement officers conducted 14 compliance checks in Pend Oreille, Stevens and Spokane Counties on Tuesday, Aug. 17.  During the compliance checks, an 18, 19 or 20 year old will enter a restaurant, tavern, or grocery store to attempt to buy alcohol.  Of the 14 businesses checked, one sold alcohol to a minor:
  • The Panther Pit Stop, 419041 State Route 20, Cusick

The Board commends the following business for passing Tuesday’s compliance checks:

  • A-N-D Mini Mart, 100 W. Walnut St., Newport

  • Safeway, 121 W. Walnut St., Newport
  • Bestop #1, 333111 Highway 2, Newport
  • South Shore Store, 802 South Shore Road, Newport
  • Metaline Mini Mart, N. 116 Highway 31, Metaline
  • The Falls Market, 204 E. Fifth, Metaline Falls
  • Airport Kwik Stop, 2111 Highway 31, Ione
  • Gotta Stop, 103 N. Second St., Ione
  • Ione Market, 201 Blackwell St., Ione
  • Porter’s Plaza, 103 S. Second, Ione
  • Beaver Lodge Resort, 2430 State Route 20 E., Colville
  • Whitten Oil, 855 S. Main St., Colville
  • Miller’s One Stop, 39824 State Route 2, Elk

Clerks who sell alcohol to a minor receive a criminal citation.  Liquor licensees receive either an administrative violation notice (AVN) or a written warning from the Liquor Control Board based on past offenses.

The first time AVN penalty for selling alcohol to a minor is a five-day suspension or a $500 fine, a second offense is a 7-day suspension with no monetary option, a third offense is a 30-day suspension with no monetary option, and a fourth offense is a license cancellation.
