Two of 14 Tobacco Licensees sell Cigarettes to Minors

POULSBO - Liquor Control Board enforcement agents and a Kitsap County health department official conducted 13 tobacco compliance checks in Poulsbo and one in Silverdale on Oct. 28.

During the compliance checks a 15 or 16 year old enters a restaurant or grocery store and attempts to buy cigarettes.  The following two businesses checked that day sold tobacco to a minor:

• Chevron - 18764 Highway 305, Poulsbo

• Tequilas Grill, A Sports Bar - 18932 Front St., Poulsbo
   

Clerks who sell tobacco to a minor receive a $50 fine for a first time offense. Licensees receive a penalty based on the following guidelines: 

• First offense $100 dollar fine,

• Second offense $300 dollar fine,

• Third offense $1,000 dollar fine with a six-month license suspension and,

• Fourth offense is a $1,500 dollar fine with a 12-month license suspension.

The Liquor Control Board commends the following 12 businesses for refusing to sell tobacco to a minor during the Oct. 28 checks:

• Mucky Duck Restaurant & Pub - 19581 Viking Ave. N.W.,
        Poulsbo
• Northwest Deli Mart - 19890 Viking Ave. N.W., Poulsbo
• Port Side Pub - 18779 Front St., Poulsbo
• Poulsbo Junction Grocery - 19559 Viking Ave. N.W., Poulsbo
• Poulsbo Red Apple Market - 20441 Viking Ave. N.W., Poulsbo
• Poulsbo Village 76 - 19560 N.E. Seventh Ave, Poulsbo
• Rite Aid - 19475 Seventh Ave. N.E., Poulsbo
